We endeavor to continue this kind of people-centric projects and the next locations will be at Kota Samarahan and Asajaya. Estimated Budget required for remaining 5 Libraries & Literacy Centres is RM 300,000.00.

12th October 2022 - 1st Library Officially Handed Over Officiated by Premier of Sarawak

Joint project by RC Kuching Unity City, RC Sri Kenyalang and RC Kuching Jaya for literacy cum library project officiated by Premier of Sarawak YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The library is officially handed over to Kampung Haji Baki, Kuching, for the benefit of local community. thanks for Rotarians from District 3310 donated and supported the project.

It is the extension of Empowering Girls project, pioneered by RC Kuching Unity City, from giving the necessity items, to library with computers, to help the children of 111 single families at the Kampung. The delivery of the necessity items was witnessed by DG Joanne in July 2022.

17th September 2022 - 1st library Handed Over

Handover of Fully Furnished Library and Resource Centre to the Residence Committee of Kpg Haji Baki, Kuching Sarawak.

Successfully handed over our 1st Library and Resource Centre, a joint community project between RC Kuching Unity City, Sri Kenyalang, and Kuching Jaya to the residence committee of Kpg. Haji Baki, Kuching.

The handover is held today at 10.00am at Multi-Purpose Hall, Kampung Haji Baki attended by CP Raja Noor Akmar - The Organising Chair, IPP Chew Teik Seng - The Vice Chair, Pres. PP Sakai Kazue and members from Rotary Clubs. YB Ir. Lo Khere Chiang from Padawan Municipal Council, witnessed the handover, to Puan Hajjah Saftuyah - the Penghulu of Kampung Haji Baki, who received the handover on behalf of the Residence Committee.

The Multi-purpose Hall will be officiated by our Premier YB Abang Jo, on the 6th Oct-2022.

This library is a lifetime project to enhance the literacy of residences and future generation of Kampung Haji Baki, its vicinity and neigboring kampungs which is estimated of at least 15,000 people. The library is equipped with Literacy Corner which is consisting of 6 complete sets of refurbished computers, 2 sets of refurbished printers, about 2400 books of which 1600 books are donated by the State Library, The Tzu Chi, members and the public. This library is also equipped with the access to Digital Collection In collaboration with the State Library. Total 21 rotarians involved in this project which from RCKUC, RCSK and RCKJ.

We envisage that this facility will be able to increase the literacy for children, students, and parents. Eventually, this will uplift and break the cycle of poverty especially among the B40 and M40. For a start, this library has very basic setup of fixtures such as air-conditioning, bookshelves, chairs, tables, signage, and socket point. We would appreciate if donors and public to come forward to donate books and computers.

After handover, series of vocational trainings and workshops will be planned and organized by the Committee to develop the Human Capital for the residences.
 

15th August 2022

Second Joint Meeting of Rotary Literacy Centre cum Library Set Up at Kpg Haji Baki this morning, with committee members from Kpg Haji Baki. This is a joint Community Service Project by RC Kuching Unity City, RC Sri Kenyalang, and RC Kuching Jaya.

To-date, this joint project has garnered support from more than 21 Rotarians, and 9 representatives. Pre and post set up, including upskilling through different possible training modules to increase literacy rates of the village, as well as to address schools drop out of students post primary 6.

The centre is scheduled to be handed over by early October 2022 and we are soliciting for cash donations and donations in kind from interested organizations.

3. 24 sets of used laptops.
